Plein Air…Fog…and Color!

What is it about color that inspires artists so much?
For the past two days I have been locked away in my studio framing and shipping paintings for upcoming shows and I am miserable. Everyday is like a kaleidoscope of colors and my windows taunt me with little glimpses of todays inspiration.
One of my students recently wrote me and said, “all I can think about is color and paint. Not the best thing when I should be working.”
It is not by his mixing and choosing, but by the shapes of his colors, and the combination of those shapes, that we recognize the colorist. Color becomes significant only when it becomes form. (Clive Bell)Painting in the fog is all about COLOR. The shapes of things are lost…the values changes are subtle…but everywhere there is color!
Some recent early morning fog paintings. Enjoy!!

Elio, nice looking blog.
Beautiful color and paintings. The ‘old’ figure studies on raw boards are really nice.

The fog series is amazing! Beautiful color. Wish I could ask you a hundred questions about how you mix those hues!
