Amazing. The variety in color schemes in each painting is so instructive — each one captures a different kind of light, mood, atmosphere. I’m really blown away seeing them all together like this and have been studying them and learning from them. The first one has such interesting colors in the darks, representing the same land as in the lights but with completely different colors and color temperatures that totally work to say same land not in sun even though they’re pink and purple, etc. Also after your talk about the paint strokes themselves indicating distance or lighter areas (horizontal) vs closer (diagonal) or darker (vertical) is readily visible and worth studying! Thank you so much for all you share with us, your lucky students!

So, I’m clicking on these latest efforts Elio, and I click on one or two thinking, “Well, I don’t know about this one …” only to see it larger and say, “Wow, look at that!” So, just put a blindfold on me and whichever one my dart hits is the one I’ll say is my favorite, just make sure you patch the hole in it afterwards : )
Like Jana above, that top left 9×12 really is tremendous - rich and warm - the dark violet and olive green - the sky is great but the colors of those strong olive green strokes in the foreground really do it. Just inspiring as usual Elio!

Gregory,
Your approach to viewing my work is similar to my approach to painting.
“Well, I don’t know about this one …”
As you know, painting is about pushing myself. How much can I get away with? How abstract and painterly can I make them and still be representational?
You just need to keep pushing the so called “rules” past explanation. When the viewer looks at the painting he may not be able to explain why it works just that it works. You know when I teach I try to avoid telling you “how” to paint and instead teaching you “how” to see.

Great colour sense in all of these. You have a very personal way with colour harmonies… not colours I would think of putting together, but they really work for you. Inspirational work!
