Born the island of Madeira hundreds of miles south of Portugal in the North Atlantic Ocean, I immigrated to California in 1975 with my family.

In my mid-twenties I decided to follow my childhood passion for art. I fell in love with master impressionists such as Bongart, Sorrolla, Fechin and particularly the Russian impressionists. It was not until I met master impressionist Ovanes Berberian that I fully understood the endless possibilities of paint.
I have been absorbed by those possibilities ever since.

Dear Elio,
I have absolutely fallen in love with your work…I’ve seen it at Leiper’s Creek Gallery in Leiper’s Fork, TN. I hope I figure out some day how to purchase one of your works. I’m a transplanted Californian…thanks so much for what you’re creating.
