August 11-15, 2008
I’m headed back to beautiful Franklin, Tennessee to teach still life workshop this August.
Each time I paint my goal is to capture the particular mood of the moment and to express myself in a bold and colorful way while capturing the beauty and spontaneity of nature. To me putting passion and emotion into a painting is far more important then just making a copy of your subject.
If you have similar goals and want to learn to fill your canvases with color and boldness then this class may be for you.
- Some of the things we will cover are:
My goal as an instructor is to give my students the foundation necessary to express themselves.

Elio: Your TN workshop was one of the best I’ve ever attended. Your dedication to giving feedback to students and the individual attention we all received was refreshing and much appreciated.
Hopefully, we Suthen’ers weren’t too much to put up with for 8 days.
All I can say is GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR-ate!!! Cyndy

Dear Elio,
your workshop affected me so profoundly it has taken me this long to be able to put words down without sounding so blubbery and foolish. I tried to write you a card, but my pen couldn’t keep up with my thoughts.
I am now certifiably crazy according to friends and relatives because of my obsession with color. EVERYTHING I see has colors underneath, around, behind, and on top of it, and I have to keep myself from going back and redoing every painting I’ve ever done.
After teaching 32 years in a public school and encountering ALL sorts of teachers, I must tell you that you’ve got what it takes. I’ve never enjoyed a workshop more and felt so at ease and unafraid. In some settings I feel like the kid who just sneaked in through the back door and is listening to the grown-ups talk. But with you I felt like I walked right in through the front and sat down in a chair especially for me on the front row. And what an honor it is to be an official charter member of the original Elio Camacho Leiper’s Fork Groupie Group (aka Tennessee Tick and Chigger Pickers).
Keep up the absolutely amazing work, you cutie-pie, and don’t let all this nonsense go to your head.
By the way, I’m sending you some pictures via Snail Mail, and if you’d like them sent by e-mail as well I’ll have to find some technology-gifted person to send them for me. Or I can have you a CD made at Wolf Camera.
Lots of love and admiration,
Wanda

Hi Elio,
I so enjoyed your enthusiasm and your bold expressive work!
Yes, I have a long way to go, but will try to draw from what you shared and see where it goes!
You are a kind and generous teacher, who knows way too much about who, how and why… I’m very impressed by that, not to mention the pretty paintings.
I learned a lot, including about holding the brush, discerning value, and the use of color. Thoroughly enjoyed all of the lovely ladies and their stories and you, the patient and not so shy after all teacher. Thanks much for being so approachable and making this a memorable time.

Hi E.
I can’t wait to start painting tomorrow and applying my new Elio Workshop knowledge to my canvas. I hope you had a good trip back, I am sure your loved one’s were all happy to see you. You are really a special person my dear! I have so much respect for your art and knowledge and I did seem to take you into my heart as my adopted son. Your enthusiasm for your art and for life is very contagious and I will always treasure the fun memories of this workshop and getting to know you. There is no end to the success I see for you in the future. I know you liked me the best of all in the workshop, you can’t help it! I will send you a sample of my practice paintings in the next couple of weeks. Watch your back because southern momma could be anywhere.
Lots of love and laughs,
Momma Nancy

Elio,
You are the best! We thank you for the best workshop experience ever! You’ve ruined me for any other art workshops. Thanks for being such a good sport. We’re not really as nutty as we seemed. But it was such fun and you made it safe to experiment and even fail, and you showed that the painting wasn’t over until you quit working on it. Always with the great finish. Can I email you a piece every now and then for critique? I don’t want to lose what I learned these last 5 days. I know you’ll be going far. With your work ethic and generosity, only good things can come back to you. I wish you all the best. Brenda Hasty
ps. Hope your Mamma had a great Mother’s Day. Ya’ll come back real soon, ya hear?

E,
I learned SO much to the point that I can hardly look at the world without thinking “relationship”, values, color and on and on. You were such an inspiration and so patient with all of us. Who knows you may one day wake up with a craving for grits!

Hi, Bacon Cowboy…
I guess I should add my own 2 cents as well! I have to say I pretty much jumped out of my comfort zone with the whole plein air thing, but you’ve helped open the whole outdoors to me. It’s too beautiful where I live not to be outside, so now I don’t need an excuse. You have such a way with paint (& puns) and make it look like so much fun. Oops, that was unintentional…

Hello Elio,
I can’t believe it’s been almost a month since your workshop in Leiper’s Fork, TN. Wow…did I learn so much from you. Your style of painting is what I’ve been searching for. And your use of color is fabulous. I’m glad you graced us with your giftings. We’re looking forward to your return in October.
As I look over your blog, I noticed you officially started it about one year ago… June 12, 2007. This June 12th is Nancy (my precious wife) and my 4th Anniversary. Thanks for helping us celebrate our marriage and the joys of painting. Outside of God, Nancy inspried me to start painting again back in the fall of 2005. I had not done so for over 30 years. Elio, I have no doubt God put you in my path to take me to a new level I’ve never been to before.
You’re an excellent artist, great teacher and very kind person. I pray God continues to bless you and your work.
Wayne
P.S. Thanks for posting my picture on your blog with regard to the Leiper’s Fork workshop. I’m the guy in blue painting creekside.
